Daniel as Lincoln

Comingsoon.net - Thanks, Ellen

Daniel as Lincoln.

Now filming in Virginia, leading man Daniel Day Lewis was spotted taking a break from the set of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, made up to look like America's 16th President. The picture was taken and posted by local Twitter user Michael via Richmond.com.

More at Collider - First Look at Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln for Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN -- You may be aware that Day-Lewis is known for going pretty hardcore method for his roles, and now we have our first look at the actor all trimmed up as Lincoln. He’s not in costume, but Variety’s Jeff Sneider hears that Day-Lewis hasn’t broken his Lincoln accent since March and his real name doesn’t even appear on the call sheet, so it’s pretty safe to assume that he’s already “in character.” Even without a costume he looks terrific, and I really can’t wait to see what’s sure to be an extraordinary performance in full. Hit the jump to check out the image. The film also stars Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, John Hawkes, and Jared Harris as Ulysses S. Grant. Lincoln opens in late 2012. -- Thanks, Steph

Several of Oscar's usual suspects have been noticeably missing from the bigscreen in 2011, but most spent their absences filming and are ready to be back on Oscar's most-wanted list next year. Two-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis was last seen singing his way through Italian showbiz in 2009's "Nine." In his next project the Brit will portray an iconic American president in Touchstone's "Lincoln," slated for a December 2012 bow.

The pair also worked together on two documentary shorts and two episodes of the television series Amazing Stories, for which Williams also wrote the theme. Today, the Spielberg-Williams collaboration continues full force, with The Adventures of Tintin and their 25th feature film collaboration, War Horse, both set for release this Christmas.  “Team of Rivals,” published in 2005, also caught the attention of Hollywood and is being made into a major motion picture due out next year. “Lincoln,” directed by Steven Spielberg, will star Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field.

“I just came back from Richmond and it is so exciting to see a whole group of actors called into action based on what I wrote,” she said. “Daniel Day Lewis is Lincoln.”
 LINCOLN -- By Vachel Lindsay

Would I might rouse the Lincoln in you all,
That which is gendered in the wilderness
From lonely prairies and God’s tenderness.
Imperial soul, star of a weedy stream,
Born where the ghosts of buffaloes still dream,
Whose spirit hoof-beats storm above his grave,
Above that breast of earth and prairie-fire—
Fire that freed the slave.
